At Accounting for Growth we are often asked the question “Why, if I am making a profit, is my cash position so sick?”
This issue is easily quickly resolved once we know the answer to three questions.
- On which activities did the business generate and spend cash in the previous periods?
- What are the cash commitments of the business over the next 30 days?
- What is the projected cash flow of the business over the longer period (generally six to twelve months)?
By spending a short amount of time setting up the reports in MYOB/Quicken and Excel and showing you how to utilize these reports the answers to the three questions become readily apparent, and more importantly, a basis is established which allows the problem to be addressed and rectified.
